Czech Republic: Budejovicky Budvar fills key leadership function after nearly one year

Petr Dvořák has been appointed new managing director of Budejovicky Budvar, the last remaining state owned brewer in the Czech Republic.

The job had been idle since June last year, when long-time CEO Jiří Boček left office due to severe health problems. Boček, an institution in the industry, led the company for the last 25 years and quadrupled sales from 0.4 to 1.6 million hectoliters with a plus of 30% in his last 6 years (<link news-overview detail budvar-boss-jiri-bocek-steps-down-after-25-years.html>inside.beer, 2.11.2016).

For the interim period Petr Žáček (67) held office.

Dvořák, who holds a magister in economics from Charles University in Prague, worked 9 years in marketing with the second largest brewery in the Czech Republic Staropramen before being promoted to Marketing Director Central Europe for parent company AB InBev.  In 2009, after 1 year when AB InBev sold its East European breweries to private equity fund CVC Capital Partners to form StarBev, which in turn was sold in 2012 to US-Canadian brewer Molson Coors, he joined after a brief interlude outside the industry SABMiller in 2010 as Global Brand Director Pilsner Urquell.
