USA: AB InBev’s Golden Road Brewing to build new brewery in San Francisco bay area

Golden Road Brewing, a craft brewery from Los Angeles, which was bought by AB InBev in September 2015, is planning to open a second 7,000-square-foot brewery and beer garden in California. The new site is located in North Oakland in the San Francisco Bay Area only a few miles away from the University of California in Berkeley

Meg Gill (32), who co-founded Golden Road Brewing in 2011 with business partner Tony Yanow, originally wanted to set up the brewery in the San Francisco bay area, but after meeting with investors, she realized that the potential for her new venture was better further south in Los Angeles. Now, the new owners are bringing her venture back to the place, where it was originally supposed to be.

Although there are several locally owned breweries within a mile of the proposed Golden Road site, including newly opened Temescal Brewing and Drake’s Brewing, AB InBev sees enough potential for an extension of Golden Road Brewing’s innovative Flipflop pub concept.

The company "happened to have found two great markets in NorCal that embraced Golden Road’s Flipflop Pub (our concept of a nano-brewery made out of container), that also both have a relaxed, yet active, outdoor atmosphere,” Meg Gill said in a statement. The company intends to brew on site, serve food, and also feature an outdoor beer garden with fire pits.

Golden Road Brewing is one of several craft breweries under the umbrella of AB InBev’s High End Division. Other breweries include amongst others Goose Island, Blue Point, 10 Barrel, Elysian, Four Peaks, Breckenridge, Devils Backbone and Karbach.
